The Leadership Search

Posted by Orrin Woodward on December 18, 2011

I searched for him half my life,
named with an uncommon sound.

I looked for him around the world,
but this person refused to be found.

Thankfully, I discovered him,
the good news is, you can too.

However, it won’t be easy,
as he reveals himself to just a few.

You can search our government assemblies,
and only hear legends from his past.

You can search our halls of learning,
reading quaint histories fading fast.

You can search our industrial complexes,
viewing his old portraits in the aisles.

You can search our sports arenas,
reading banners going out of style.

Everyone seems to know this person,
but most refuse his name.

I ceased my fruitless search,
hanging my head in shame.

In desperation, I searched within,
realizing his presence all along.

Since no one else will be him,
I can and will, to become strong.

I am now called responsible,
I am the man with the uncommon name.

My friend, you too have this choice,
for you can be called the same.

The search has ended.
The journey is done.

Who is responsible?
I am; You are; Everybody and everyone.

Sincerely, Orrin Woodward

Very powerful Orrin! We need to stop looking around and start looking within. I am responsible! It is great to get a reminder… 🙂

  4. It truly is in us all…..if we have the courage and discipline to dig deep and find it and use it according to Gods will! Add accountability and you got it! Thanks Orrin and PC for showing us what responsibility looks like!

I love when I hear someone say, “they need to fix this.” It is time for all of us to become the “they”.

    Thanks Orrin for the reminder.

Wow. What a great post. It was a very uplifting part of my day. Responsibility is a great virtue to have, it seems easy to develop yet it elludes so easily. Many times ego will defer someone from taking responsibility because ‘its not my fault’ or ‘someone else will take care of it’. Taking the time to go above and beyond and to make sure people are on the same page and understand that you are willing to be a rock is important.
That is what LIFE and the TEAM promote and I am honored to be part of these wonderful organizations with great leadership and responsibility. Thank you Orrin.

Thank you for the constant reminder that I alone am the one that is responsible for my position in life. It may not be the easiest choice to take responsibility, but it is the only way I can change and get better. You and the rest of the LIFE Business leaders provide great examples for prospective leaders to model their life after.

Thank you Orrin for that perspective. That is so very true how we need to look inside ourselves for the answer to our life adversities, dreams and goals. We are responsible for how to get to where we want to go. I have heard so many of Life Leaders tell their story of their struggles and not one blamed others. What true leaders being created through the Team/Life information. Thank you for looking within yourself and creating such a powerful destiny for others to to do the same. God Bless and Merry Christmas to you and Laurie and all your children.

I just read this on Dan Hawkins Blog!! This is what I commented there: Great poem with a great truth!! Sadly, many won’t choose to be called this. Some because they Don’t really even understand what the word means:

    Responsible means:
1 a: liable to be called on to answer
b (1): liable to be called to account as the primary cause, motive, or agent or committee responsible for the job
b (2): being the cause or explanation
c: liable to legal review or in case of fault to penalties

2 a: able to answer for one’s conduct and obligations: trustworthy
b: able to choose for oneself between right and wrong

3 : marked by or involving responsibility or accountability

Some won’t choose to be called responsible because they Do understand what it means.

Orrin, the TEAM PC, and LIFE Founders have all been called on to be responsible – and they all choose to honor that call. They choose it – because it is the right thing to do. They choose it to be examples for their families. They choose it to lead and guide their Teams. They choose it to close the wrong doors and open the right doors for all of us. Who will stand with them?

To the best of my ability, and with God’s help, I choose to be called “responsible”. Joshua 24:15 But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

    God Bless,
    Lori Maas

The more and more I listen to you and the rest of the PC, it is apparent that everything comes down to what you yourself are willing to do. I never hear any of you blaming anyone else or pointing fingers. It is great to see that you not only talk the talk, but are willing to walk the walk as well. Thank you for demonstrating the courage to run against the current.

Another insightful and meaningful message, one that we can all learn from. Thanks for sharing this Orrin!

  16. Amen Orrin! What a great message!! We’ve got to get this kind of information into our culture!!

    Thanks for sharing!

Just got off the director call a few hours ago and thought how your talk there was quite consistent with your poem. We are responsible for ourselves and if each of us steps up to the level of our capabilities we would hit a million fast. I have easily averaged 3 cds a day for the last three years and your comments tonight were quite convicting. All that is left is the doing. Thanks again. P.S. Have you checked into Steve Leurquin’s blog lately. He is writing some great stuff. Another Team author on the rise.

You just ticked the bar up another notch! If we can hold ourselves accountable, so can our representatives in gov’t, our educators, public servants, everyone. Thanks for bringing what we need to keep our society strong, let’s take it to the masses!!

  19. The only time in my life that I have heard words like this is from the Team! Thanks for putting this out there and giving us the mental and physical tools to help restore our culture. You are making a difference in the world Orrin and we are blessed to be a part of it.

    God Bless,
    Jim Martin

  20. Great!
    Simple and to the point!

  21. Don’t know why but this was the verse that popped in my head. Matthew 16:26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? Great Post.

How true! You’ve described the life most people live and how blessed we are to have LIFE TEAM that opened the door to our hearts and led us to look from within. Our search is over, it’s time to take responsibility and change. Others are waiting to open the doors for them too. As you say, “If it’s to be it’s up to me”, Thank you Orrin for leading the way! God bless you, Laurie and your children and May this Christmas season and the coming New Year be filled with peace, love, fullness and happiness! May all (y)our dreams come true!
