Successful Sales: Qualifying the Prospect

Posted by Orrin Woodward on December 2, 2012

Successful sales requires finding qualified prospects. I learned this lesson when I was nine years old selling candy bars back in Columbiaville, Michigan. I don’t care how old you are, the first time you call upon someone to share your business or product, it can be a little scary. Thankfully, however, with the PDCA process described in RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE, anyone can get better at it. Success is typically a string of failures glued together with a good attitude! The LIFE Business is succeeding because a group of men and women have committed to fail their way to success. What are you waiting for? Start failing, or should I say succeeding today. 🙂

Sincerely,

Orrin Woodward

Great article Orrin! It’s amazing some of the lessons that can be learned at an early age – and the places that they’ll take you – like to a million people and beyond!

Thanks Orrin. Failing is part of the game. Just heard from Bill Lewis on last weeks webcast that the key is “How do you handle failure, because you will”.

Love the video and article. It’s always good to think back on the experiences we had when we were young enough to dream. It’s those lessons that get lost over time, but I’ve learned through Team LIFE that those are the very lessons that will create success.

  22. What recomendations would you have for me? My call list is scatterd through the country. I have 2 in my local area. I am coming out of an incredible struggle with life. @ years ago I was homeless and begging not to wake up, now I have been given the gift of another chance. Looking forward to your input. Thank you for your time.

Great stuff. That little nervous hesitation before you promote something is so universal. With time we grow in conviction and we PDCA through our fears. RESOLVED!

Winners learn through trying and failing……losers never try and if they do, fail once and never try again. Thanks for reminding us the FACTS through life stories. It helps when we are in the middle of a failure to know we are not alone that others have gone through the same thing.

I remember being in the crowd when you gave this talk and how much I laughed and learned at the same time! Thanks for taking a life lesson and making it into a teachable moment for all of us.

  43. Orrin,

In our case with the LIFE business I see it more as qualifying a potential partner to impact the culture more than qualifying the sale, although I would agree that sales techniques are important. Any time you are transferring a feeling, or a message proper sales and/or communication techniques are important whether it is selling our potential spouse on marrying us, selling our children on our values(or eating their vegetables)or building a business. There is no doubt posture is obtained through proper qualification.

    Orrin,
This is so true…we are all afraid to fail and maybe without realizing it we have this embedded in our subconscious minds. With the books and the CD’s we can overcome. Thank you for a great post.

  45. This video clip is 3 Minutes and 11 seconds of Pure Gold for any sales professional…a must see. Fantastic! The Leadership and Personal Development principles are busting out of this talk.

    Thanks Orrin,

    Patrick
