Dan and Lisa Hawkins: Past and Future

Posted by Orrin Woodward on November 13, 2014

Two traveling monks that were sworn to avoid contact with females reached a river where they met a young woman. Wary of the current, she asked if they could carry her across. One of the monks hesitated, but the other quickly picked her up onto his shoulders, transported her across the water, and put her down on the other bank. She thanked him and departed.

As the monks continued on their way, the one was brooding and preoccupied. Unable to hold his silence, he spoke out. “Brother, our spiritual training teaches us to avoid any contact with women, but you picked that one up on your shoulders and carried her!”

“Brother,” the second monk replied, “I set her down on the other side, while you are still carrying her.”

I love this story because it teaches a great principle of success, namely, one must not let his past hinder his future. So many people continue to replay a bad experience from their past which only ensures that their futures are as bleak as their pasts. What is the use in doing that? Most people simply do not understand what they are doing, but for anyone who has listened to LIFE Leadership materials, he/she cannot use that excuse. For them, it is simply a lack of mental discipline to feed a new empowering story to the subconscious mind that ultimately changes the outside to what is said repeatedly on the inside.

Thankfully, Dan and Lisa Hawkins did not let their past predict their future. Through mental discipline, this couple changed the inside story from one of repeated failures due to overwhelming fear and lack of faith to one of the most inspiring entrepreneurial stories in America today. From a shy mechanic and a harried daycare provider to financially free LIFE Coaches leaders and Co-founders of LIFE Leadership! The Hawkins family legacy will never be the same.

I want to personally thank Dan and Lisa for their impressive vision, courage, and discipline to change. The reason Laurie and I refuse to slow down is because we know there are more couples like you who are looking for a way to let go of their past so they can seize their future by getting on The Leadership Train

What about you dear reader? Don’t you think it’s time to stop focusing on your hurts from the past so you start to create your victories in the future?

Sincerely,

Orrin Woodward

Wow! It has been such a pleasure to watch the Hawkins family grow while focusing on improving their 8Fs. A huge thank you to Dan ..just to watch him improve every time he stood in front of the Rockford opens or Seminars. Because you grew and focused I gained belief in myself and that led me to my mentors…and now a tremendous turnaroud in my thinking and soon to be an incredible lifestyle that few ever dream of!!

That was such a great video! I can personally admit that Dan & Lisa have become idols of mine and we, Jeremy and I, have looked up to them from the beginning of our business journey. I dream to walk where they have walked and achieve our dreams as we dream them.
I always enjoy reading your awesome blog posts, Orrin. Looking forward to the next already.

  5. To whom it may concern:
I totally agree, Dan Hawkins is my Idol. He is part of my inspiration, if he can do it any one can. I look forward to someday shaking his hand at some convention in the near future.
I for one have been using the past to slow my progression and now see a light at the end of the tunnel. There are so many people out there who are hurting, how selfish I would be if I did not offer them an opportunity to change. Life Leadership is inspired in what it offers to the world, and yes it is a revolution! And the only way I can thank the founders is to get out there and put Life into someone else.

I am trying my best to let go of my past Orrin, but it keeps haunting me on a daily basis. I thought I was a great Mom and I really did have the perfect children on the planet. I enjoyed every age (season) my children were. My husband and I, We were involved with them in everything they did in school, sports, dance, church activities, scouts, you name it we were there!
Our 2 oldest children got married, again there we were, all the way! Our great kids found great spouses! Then came the babies. I’ve attended the births of every one of my grandchildren, 7 so far.
But along the way, my youngest and most precious boy ever, decided to take his own life! He was 25 yrs old. Why? He was the best person ever, loved by everyone he met. It was such a shock to everyone who knew him that he had done this, but yet that is what they told us. I still have a hard time believing it and its been 2 1/2 years.
How do I get past THIS?
I found Life Leadership and I feel so much better it’s amazing. I don’t want to stay in my room all the time anymore and hibernate. I can get out and I’ve attended all the meetings and major functions, but I have this big weight on me, holding me down like a scar across my face that I’m a failure because my baby boy did this to himself. I know he didn’t do it because of me. I know he loves me very much. But the rest of the world doesn’t know this. How do I explain “join Life Leadership it helped me cope with the loss of my son” how did he die? “He killed himself” …….
I feel like I failed as a mother now how can I become a leader? Is there hope for me? This is the only thing holding ME back. Please help me.

Nola, you raised great kids and taught them to be responsible for their own lives. YOU are a great mother! I can only imagine how hurt and shocked you were by this tough situation. We may not get answers for this on earth, but we will in heaven.

The best thing for you to do is leave this tough Providence in God’s Hands, trusting He has a bigger plan than we can understand. Then you are free to make a difference in other people’s lives so that they don’t lead lives of quiet desperation. Look to the future Nola. I am very proud of you for sharing and the courage you have to get up again and serve others! 🙂 God Bless, Orrin

    • You can do it Nola!! “…You have stayed long enough at this mountain.” Deuteronomy 1:6
You are a warrior mom and your story needs to be told. LIFE Leadership is the platform. Lead on girlfriend!

I am fairly new to LIFE Leadership, and just recently reached PBO status. As a physician, I see all of the info and training that LIFE Leadership offers as HEALTH and HOPE for so many who are hurting. The way the positive feedback for those of us who are business owners is designed via the LIFE Training is phenomenal, and so necessary for those of us whose friends and family don’t quite “get it” (yet!). God bless you all!

Orrin, thank you for writing about Dan & Lisa again! They are such a fantasatic couple. I did not get to witness the people that they were. But it has been inspirational to see the people that they are. It is wonderful to see a couple who in the eyes of the world has ‘made it,’ but they keep serviing. They know that their freedom and their comfort is not the purpose of the journey. It has been a result of their purpose to serve others. What an example to follow.

Thanks again to you and the other Life Coaches for providing this avenue for all of us to pursue our dreams and for many of us to pursue our callings!

  11. Orrin, thanks for sharing this! Dan and Lisa have always modeled servant leadership through unconditional love! The best part about working with Dan is that he will not dodge the tough questions. Dan & Lisa are clear that their success is a blessing to bless others for God’s glory. Just last Thursday Dan shared that the material possessions hold no significance to him! Dan and Lisa are worthy of following because they give credit where credit is due and are constantly seeking ways to better leverage Truth in their personal lives and community. Stealth: Courage In Action!

Thank you so much. Changing the story I tell myself has become my greatest challenge and daily goal. Reading, listening, and associating are huge in keeping me from giving up. It’s the reason I have committed to sticking around until I grow enough to become the person to get the results I want. Every CD and book makes dialing the phone just a little bit easier. Every seminar grows my belief as I hear the stories of the speakers and realize that if they could do it so can I. Words cannot express mu gratitude for the influence you and Laurie and all of the Life Leadership founders have had in my life. Mediocrity and complacency just won’t do anymore.
