When the Going Gets Tough
Posted by Orrin Woodward on August 14, 2013
Here is a poem I wrote in preparation for the release of the new EDGE series book with Chris Brady. LIFE Leadership is Having Fun, Making Money, and Making a Difference, learning life-changing principles so we can pay it forward.
Sincerely,
When the Going Gets Tough
When the going gets tough
and the competition is rough
winners lift their game
not for fortune or fame
for self-respect is enough.
Winners will lose
but self-pity is refused
instead count it gain
to learn from the pain
this winners choose.
Find a win in every loss
learn to carry oneβs cross
for optimism breeds hope
a winner learns to cope
not negotiating the cost.
Find a loss in in every win
for pride is a terrible sin.
Self-examination keeps a man humble
Pride comes before the stumble
Rise and Fall lesson repeats again.
Secular man devises his schemes
Puffed up with glory in his dreams.
but Godβs Elect follow a different plan
life, liberty, and happiness at His command.
Surrender to Jesus and be redeemed.

Hi Orrin,
We can never start too early educating our children and as a matter of fact, the sooner the better off they will be! Thanks for making the edge series for our next generation of leaders!
Amen & God bless

Wow Orrin!
Awesome, who knew you had so many talents.
I praise God that you saw and moved on the BIG vision God gave you and did not bury your talents as so many do out of hopelessness rather than choice.
Thanks for the example!

There is so much opportunity to help our youth. The media and world itself is very undermining. Thank you for sharing truth in to the next generation of future leaders. This poem rocks!!!

Thank you again Orrin for your wisdom. The poem was right on amazing.
I have been waiting for LIFE to add great books to the Edge subscription for our youth, but until that happened my teens read a lot of the great books from the LIFE and LLR subscriptions.
We can not wait for Chris Brady’s new book. This information ROCKS!!!

Hopefully the Edge book is an option. I buy all of my books in Kindle format or have them scanned into PDF. It’s not fiscally responsible to buy a paper book and then buy the Kindle version also. I wish the books were also an option for the Life and LLR series also. If they were, I would subscribe to them. If the Edge book is not an option, it looks like I will be dropping that subscription. The audios are great, I just don’t want to have paper books!

John, in a very short time all our books and cds will be in digital. So you can get them the way you want. π thanks, Orrin

Q, please, Orrin –
Is the EDGE series going to become an audio & book combo, or will the book be available just a la carte? Either is A-OK, just to avoid jumping to any conclusions upon hearing of an “Edge Series book” π
p.s. While I am not in Mr. Dickinson’s camp at this time, I definitely know of others in my personal circles of influence who are, so hearing that there will be an all digital option coming this soon is fantastic! …
Q2 – I take it that it’ll be a click check box on the site for each subscription ? π

Orrin, I recently saw a bit of wisdom which seems to somewhat apply to the sentiment of your awesome poem;
A Pessimist only sees the Difficulty
In any Opportunity
An Optimist sees only the Opportunity
In any Difficulty

Absolutely Fabulous words of wisdom! There are so many people who need to know there truly is hope. I love the Edge series (and I graduated HS in 1983). I will chime in with everyone else – thank you to you and Laurie for choosing to do the hard work of pursuing your passion. David and I know only a small bit of the sacrifices you and the other PC have made to get to this place called LIFE. We are forever grateful!!!

Hi Orrin,
Great poem and right on target. Here’s a crazy last minute request. I am in Team Explosion out here in Pa and for my day job I publish a monthly magazine that caters to off road motorcycle and ATV riders and racers. We do a Chaplains Corner but my regular pastor/contributor missed his deadline this month.
Is there any chance we could have permission to reprint this in our pages if we credit your blog? We reach around 10,000 with our printing and more online. You can check us out at: http://www.recrider.com and click on back issues. Catch is my deadline is later this week. Any response appreciated
