Oliver DeMille – 1913
Posted by Orrin Woodward on February 23, 2012
My good friend and scholar Oliver DeMille, author of the bestseller Thomas Jefferson Education, is finishing up a fascinating book on the force shifts of 1913. Few people understand and explain the movements toward and away from freedom like DeMille. Simply put, he is humble enough to continue learning and intelligent enough to be a veritable genius. This is a potent combination for simplifying the concepts of freedom. Here is a portion of the introduction I wrote for DeMille’s instant classic.
Oliver DeMille’s soon to be released book gives the background story of the founders intentions and the fatal force shifts that hinder our freedoms. In truth, the four force shifts described in DeMille’s new book are painful enough on their own, but disastrous when combined:
1. The general welfare clause
2. The Federal Reserve bill
3. The income tax amendment
4. The democratic election of senators
America must turn back from the precipice and return to the path of freedom. DeMille’s book is a torch to carry on freedom’s path. Western Civilization needs more leaders like DeMille who are willing to learn, live, and share their stories of freedom. This book is essential reading, a primer of freedom or anyone desiring to live free. Let me close with one final thought from President Woodrow in his 1913 book The New Freedom:
Who have been consulted when important measures of government, like tariff acts, and currency acts, and railroad acts, were under consideration? The people whom the tariff chiefly affects, the people for whom the currency is supposed to exist, the people who pay the duties and ride on the railroads? Oh, no! What do they know about such matters! The gentlemen whose ideas have been sought are the big manufacturers, the bankers, and the heads of the great railroad combinations. The masters of the government of the United States are the combined capitalists and manufacturers of the United States. . . The government of the United States at present is a foster-child of the special interests. It is not allowed to have a will of its own.
Is this as disconcerting to you as it is to me? Is it really safe for our government to be an orphan in the hands of Big Business and Big Banks? DeMille’s new book will share a path out of the maze. Sincerely, Orrin Woodward

Man my excitement is at 11! I just recieved Oliver’s Thomas Jefferson education yesterday and I have been tearing through it! The first time I was introduced to Oliver and his books was at the Major in Columbus for the launch of LIFE. Oever said that in order to have a freedom shift in America we need three things. 1- 3 1/2% of the people, developing into people who are varacious readers and independant thinkers, and last a successful group of entrepreneurs. The goal has been set, One million people! It is amazing to me just how clear you can see your path when the torch of freedom lights the way! Can’t wait for the new book, and thank you Orrin for the trailer, not the movie. Freedom matters!

We learned more in reading the Thomas Jefferson Education book than we believe we learned during our whole schooling. The combined information between Orrin, Chris and Oliver is eye opening and inspiring, it shows our country is in desperate need of it’s people to step up and start truly educating themselves. Thank you all for leading the way and giving us the truth. Jason and Chris Winkler

I began diving into DeMille’s works in November 2011. To date, I have finished The Coming Aristocracy, A Thomas Jefferson Education, and Freedom Shift. I cannot express how thought provoking these works have been for me personally. Each book in its own way describes why countries struggle to keep their liberties, what we can do personally to educate ourselves, and what steps we can take as tribal communities to truly make a difference from the bottom up.
What I love the MOST about DeMille is his ability to not pick sides or put himself in a box, but to intellectually engage the reader to think for themselves.
DeMille writes in The Coming Aristocracy, “Today, the era of conservatives and liberals is over. Both have either become aristocrats, or their employees or agents. Ours is the era of a new, global aristocracy, which uses both governments and markets to increase its power and wealth.” He goes on to say, “The hallmark of aristocratic society is a mass of people who consider themselves limited, stuck, inferior. The hallmark of freedom, in contrast, is the individual who puts aside labels or limits and lives his/her dreams.”
For me personally, DeMille give new reasons for how important it is for us to shed our limit thinking.
All the best,

Thanks so much Orrin for bringing Mr. DeMille and his wisdom to the Team. We look forward to his books and Audio CD’s that come to us through the system, he is evidence of what a true education and wisdom are and his Ideas are a clear path to the thinking that gave us the freedom that our founding fathers intended for us all! We need to embrace them if we are ever to have a shadow of the freedoms that they fought and died for!

DeMille’s books have had great influence on how I think about government, politics, and business. He clearly drives away from simple constructs that typically divide us on issues, like what party we belong to, to thinking more clearly on the issues and policies that effect us. It has changed the way I discuss political issues, helping me clarify the issue we should be debating.
I look forward to reading his next book. Thanks Orrin for the heads up.

Good evening! I fully agree with Mr. Crichlow — in my past life, I used to be fully in the corner of one of the political parties ( hint: the one that is supposedly for freedom and small gov’t ) , however, over the past 6-7 years, I first became very disenchanted with that party, then it morphed from there into trying to figure out where to go from there; the other party wasn’t an option in my mind. Then, within the past 2 years, I was introduced to 5% thinking, and in the libor/self directed/leadership education that I never received in the 95% world, I found much stronger, clear, and logical answers = truth serum for the mind, soul, and will. In this education, undoubtedly, Mr. DeMille lives, and I’ve now read all 3 of his books, and looking very much forward to this 4th one! Thank you so much for giving us the “drop” on what’s to come, Orrin. May I also use this post to please encourage the LIFE leadership/Team PC to invite him back to another major? 😉 Cheers & many blessings.

The reason why freedom is taken from our lives is because we don’t know what we don’t know, We can’t fight what we don’t see. Thanks to authors like DeMille, the Woodwards, the Bradys and the founding fathers who help us know and equip us how to fight to keep our freedom. Thank you for all that you’re doing and for leading the way! God bless!

I had no idea that I could take responsibility for freedom. The first time that I was introduced to Mr. DeMille was at the November major. I was moved and became interested in freedom, in history, in learning about my country and in my responsibility as an American. I am sad to say that it was such a far off subject before I heard his presentation. I hadn’t learned this in school, in college, in the work force or in my community. Thank goodness I was introduced to a new community of folks who talk about freedom! It is a great privilege to be a part of a group of people who live intentionally for excellence. Can’t wait to read Oliver DeMille’s new book.
