20 Leadership Habits to Break: Part I
Posted by Orrin Woodward on March 10, 2014
This past week has been a whirlwind of love, emotion, and service with the tragic news of the passing of our great friend LIFE Leadership Founder Jackie Lewis. I will share my thoughts on her impressive testimony of life-transformation in an upcoming post. I appreciate all the people who reached out to encourage, serve, and pray for the Lewis and LeVeque families.
Today, I wanted to share a video from a recent LIFE Live event on the 20 Leadership Habits to Break. I read about these 20 bad habits from Marshall Goldsmith’s book What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There. By taking his list of habits and sharing some personal thoughts from each from my 20 plus years on the leadership front lines, this talk can help someone take their leadership to the next level. Without any further ado, here is the video.
Sincerely,

Hi Orrin,
Great topic and video.
Would it be fair to say as we change to strive to be a leader we must not stop ever being a learner and performer but just in a different way? I believe one of my personal setbacks has always been while achieving the next level (in any aspect) that not to forget how you got to that point. Keep learning and achieving but be the the leader.
God Bless
Chad.

Hello Orrin,
I’m not trying to butter you up saying this. I have been a christ follower since I was able to decide to. When you speak about your HS yearbook, do you think it’s possible that Jesus Christ inspired the people to write what they wrote and maybe they goofed the translation? You talk (positively argue) to people early and late, their lives (sub v for n) are crooked and you help get them straight. I think You have fulfilled a prophecy by creating the Team and LIFE business. Christ came to save us and create his church(community) and teach us to be servants like him and build his community, which you are doing and doing it well. Keep it up. I knew you could deliver an awesome salvation message like you did at the Leadership Convention.
Sincerely, Dave Nelson

Dave, I have never thought of it that way. Excellent insights. I will have to dwell on that more, but I do believe God gives us indicators in our lives similar to the one he did when Chris and I roomed together with in Texas for five weeks when we were 20 years old. Who would of known we would have become 20+ year business partners then? 🙂 thanks, Orrin

Great reminders, Orrin: get SELF out of the equation; and to not only study and learn what to DO to be a great, successful leader, but also look at what NOT to do! God bless you. 🙂

Great topics here. Moving self aside is tough, but it is necessary. Hard for us old “performers”, but worth the effort.

Group preservation is jeopardized when winning “at all costs” turns a performer into a predator. Great reminder ! thanks Orrin

Reminds me of a level 3 to level 4 tribe in Tribal Leadership.
In gaming, we usually refer this as WAAC (Win At All Costs) and attracts no one. Competitiveness, however, does attract performers and good association.

O,
Jeff Darling promoted LLR 612 – “20 Habits Leaders Must Break” about a week ago, and I’ve been listening to it over and over. I fee so grateful to have an iron sharpens iron mentor like Jeff and support from Felmar, Curtis and you…..it’s a blessing to have people in your life who want you to win and who care enough to speak truth in love. As I’m listening to this CD, I can literally feel my entire LIFE changing….God bless and thank you for producing this talk. Man. What incredible information!!!

An excellent book to bring out in the leadership series! Getting to know, that in order to continue our growth as leaders, we must accept that we need to continue our own self education toward that end! Keep up the great work Orrin, I become more inspired everyday because of my involvement in Life-Leadership! Thank you!

I am new. How much time do I spend listening to CDs and reading and how much showing the plan?
I do have 3 1/2 years (15 years ago) of building the business you originally built to level of silver.
THANKS! HILLEL

Orrin,
Thank you for your message.
I have been Club 180, and Go Getter since my 1st month and have gotten to Power Player but I don’t feel that I’m developing a Team feeling amongst those that I’ve sponsored. I have started the 5 main relationship books. Any specific tapes I should listen or re listen to?
Thank you for your time, patience and leadership!
